On Dec 11 2019, CAB was passed and become CAA. Not going in every detail about CAA, I just want to highlight some points regarding this act. These are:
- The very first point is that it harms the secular fabric of the country. It’s an act that divides people on the basis of their religion.
- I know CAA is not going to take anyone’s citizenship but with NRC it’ll worsen.
- It is also against the idea of India, of secularism. It justifies the Jinnah’s Two-Nation theory(Do Quami Nazaria) that Hindus and Muslims can’t live together.
- CAA+NRC is not only anti-Muslim but also anti-poor.
Now I’m going to prove the points. So, according to article 14, there could not be any law which will discriminate a person based on his religion. CAA is about to make it easier for the availing of citizenship for illegal immigrants of particular religions(not Islam) from 3 countries. So, this Act is against the constitution. Many people are saying that there is a no.of Muslim country, Muslims can go anywhere. Yes, they can go but what about those who are being persecuted in their own Muslim country. Some people are giving the example of Pakistani’s Ahmadiya and Shia Muslims, that their leaders accepted the proposal of Pakistan being an Islamic State. But I think at that time they didn’t assume that their community may get persecuted in future in their own country.
I also know that the previous rule of citizenship availing will still work. Persecuted one’s of every religion will still get citizenship after staying for 12 years. So, why do we need it, sir? Why spreading the Communalism? Why spreading the Hate? Just for shifting the focus from the real issues.
India was formed against that idea on which Pakistan was formed. Two nation theory was the founding principle of Pakistan. They want a separate homeland where they can practice Islam as a dominant religion. But the idea of India was not like that. We made India a secular nation where everyone has the right to choose any religion and can practice it without any fear. We have shown that Hindus and Muslims can live together. Many times we have proved the existence of Ganga Jamuni tahjeeb.
I think we all know how CAA could get worsen with NRC. Many people are saying that PM has assured that there will be no NRC but this is the biggest lie he has spoken till now. Home Minister has clearly said that there will be a nationwide NRC in India. Even President has clearly mentioned NRC in his address on starting of the Parliament session. Then our PM says that there was not any talk on NRC in his government. Amazing!
First, there will be an act CAA which aims at giving(&easing) the citizenship to the people of some particular religion. Then they will launch nationwide NRC which filters the one with no land records, birth certificates and some other certificates and will tag them as illegal immigrants. There is one thing to notice those people also have to prove that they are an illegal immigrant from one of those 3 countries. We all know there’s a lot of corruption in our country. There are poor people who live in Jhuggi-Jhopdis who don’t have a proper living place. In India, every year we see the flood in many states. What about those people who have left their houses to save their lives due to flood and other natural calamities. Are these people able to produce documents for NRC? No, I don’t think so. This is totally anti-poor.
We have seen what happened in Assam NRC, we have wasted 4 years in doing NRC and got 19 lac people suspicious. But are those really illegal? One of them had served the Indian Army. There are many mistakes in this. Son got cleared in NRC while mother wasn’t. Don’t forget there are Hindus also in those 19 lacs. It’s totally anti-poor. And who knows there could be many wrong people who get cleared in NRC.
That’s why I just want it should not be done in this way. It’s not the need of the hour. We have to choose our preferences wisely. We have to filter the illegal immigrants from our country, they are the security threats for us. But please don’t do this in this way.
